AUGUSTA – The Knox-Lincoln County Beekeepers will host the Maine State Beekeepers annual meeting at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 9, at the Augusta Elks Lodge, 397 Civic Center Drive.

Speaker will be Dr. James E. Tew, Extension specialist, apiculture, at Ohio State University’s Department of Entomology. Since 1978, Tew has taught classes, provided Extension services and conducted applied research on honeybees and honeybee behavior – specifically pollination behavior.

He has written beekeeping articles for beekeeping journals and has recently published a book, “Beekeeping Principles and Backyard Beekeeping.” Tew has traveled widely to observe beekeeping techniques and procedures. From 1987 to 1995, he served as the National Program Leader for Beekeeping for the USDA Extension Service, Washington, D.C.

His topics will be “Package Bees – Are They Still an Option?” and “Our Uneasy Relationship with American Foulbrood.”

Raffles will benefit the association. Attendees are invited to bring an item for the raffle and everyone who preregisters will receive one free ticket.

The registration fee of $25 includes the program, coffee break and a hot luncheon buffet. Advance registrations are encouraged. Closing date for registration is Friday, April 1.
