NORWAY – Gary A. Martin, 59, of Oxford, died unexpectedly on Saturday, March 19, at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Lewiston, on May 19, 1945, the son of Jacob and Elizabeth Edwards Martin and educated in Hebron Schools.

He was employed at Regional Waste in Portland for the past five years, and was previously employed by Zampell Refractories in Auburn for 11 years. He was looking forward to and planning his retirement.

He married the love of his life and soul mate, Karol E. (Bowie) Martin, on Nov. 14, 1964.

He loved ice fishing, four-wheeling with his sons and nephews, woodworking, always working on a project, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He never missed a family gathering and was always ready for a party.

He is survived by his wife of Oxford; his daughters, Carol Anne and her companion, Walter Hopkins, of Oxford, Lisa and her companion, Josh Foster, of Norway; sons, Duane of Oxford, and Bruce and wife, Linda, of Otisfield; his grandchildren, Bruce, Crystal, Julia, Adrianna, and Haylee; and “Papa” was anxiously waiting for the arrival of his second grandson in two to three weeks. He is also survived by six sisters and five brothers, all of Hebron; and many nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved.

He was predeceased by his father in 1997.

Gary was a passionate person, loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest. Every day was special to him. He was caring, generous, never had a bad word to say about anybody and was always asking if you needed anything, because he would surely give it to you. Gary, we love you and will never, ever forget you. You will always be in our hearts.
