LEWISTON – Marguerite D. Maxim, 99, of 167 Montello St., Lewiston, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 18, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, following a short illness, with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Bathurst, New Brunswick, on Jan. 13, 1906, the daughter of Henry J. and Elizabeth (Thibodeau) Doucet.

She graduated high school from Sacred Heart Academy in Bathurst, New Brunswick. Marguerite graduated with honors from C.M.G. School of Nursing now Central Maine Medical Center in 1927, where she began her nursing career, as a wonderful caring and compassionate nurse.

On July 3, 1928, she married Harry W. Maxim and they had three daughters, Constance, Lida and Joyce. He passed away on March 2, 1974.

She opened the Medical Department at Continental Mills and was the registered nurse for 20 years. She was also a nurse for two years at Raytheon before returning to work and Central Maine Medical Center as the head nurse on West 2. She did private duty nursing until she retired in 1979.

She was a lifetime member of the CMMC Alumni, a charter member of the Maine Industrial Nurses and a member of St. Joseph’s Queen Guild.

She is survived by three daughters, Constance Blackwood of Lewiston with whom she made her home, Lida Muench and her husband, Gerald, of Lillian, Ala., and Joyce Murphy of Lewiston; her grandchildren, William Blackwood of Lewiston, Lynne Adams and her husband, W. Ray, of Greene, Debra Blackwood of San Antonio, Texas, Bonnie Culberson and her husband, Jack, of Waverly Hall, Ga., James Blackwood and his fiance, Sandra Needham, of New Gloucester, Cynthia Blackwood of Lewiston, George Muench of Mobile, Ala., Stephen Muench and his wife, Terri, of Virginia Beach, Va., Kathleen McKenzie and her husband, Lealon, of Edmond, Okla., Joyce Powell and her husband, Larry, of Tulsa, Okla., Gerald Muench and his wife, Melissa, of Fairhope, Ala., Michael Muench of Jackson, Miss., Michael Murphy of Costa Mesa, Calif., and Rose Murphy of Lewiston; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters, Hannah and Ashley Morin. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews, including three favorite nieces, Sally Steele Brochu of Lewiston, Michaeleen Steele of Manotick, Ontario, and Beverly Maxim of Auburn.

The family appreciated the frequent visits to Nana from Barbara Schutt of Lewiston.

Marguerite was the last survivor of her 12 brothers and sisters.
