RANGELEY – Though it hasn’t been set, selectmen have discussed holding town elections on June 14 to coincide with state elections, said Chairman Mark Beauregard.
Nomination papers are available today and due to be filed by April 29.
Open seats include:
• Two selectmen: currently held by Beauregard and Donald Nuttall.
• Two school board directors: held by Pam Ellis and Harold Schaetzle III.
• Sewer commission: currently held by Robert Pulkka.
• Park commission: held by Kimberly Dolbier.
• Water district: currently filled by Robert Griscom.
At their meeting last week, selectmen discussed the Department of Transportation’s proposal to delay improvements to Route 4 north of Phillips, according to Beauregard.
He said selectmen have been lobbying the department not to postpone the road repairs.
“It is important to improve the road especially with the investment at Saddleback so people can get there,” Beauregard said.
Selectmen named Rick Godaire of the highway department as interim director of parks and recreation.
He will replace Patricia Quinn who resigned several months ago to pursue a career as a forester.
If everything works out, selectmen hope to see Godaire retain the position for the long term.
In Fire Department business, selectmen agreed to destroy the old fire station on Pond Street and discussed turning the lot located on Haley Pond into a small park with public restrooms.
Beauregard said he will donate required excavating work.
Selectmen also learned of the acquisition of a new fire rescue truck purchased from a southern Maine department for $6,500.
