LAKELAND, Fla. – George E. Brackett, 82, formerly of Lewiston, died following a brief illness at Lakeland Memorial Hospital in Lakeland, Fla., Sunday, March 20.

He was born on June 13, 1922, in Searsport, to Stuart and Hazel Brackett.

He served his country during World War II, in the Pacific theater in the U.S. Army. He was a lifelong member of the Masons. He was also a 50-year member of the Tranquil Lodge 29 in Auburn. He spent 50 years working in the Maine shoe industry.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Brackett, of Lakeland, Fla.; sister, Margaret Merrithew, of Searsport; brothers, Stuart Brackett of Hermon and Fred Brackett of Searsport; son, Jeffrey Brackett of Poland; daughters, Kathryn Edwards of Brunswick and Beth Sullivan of Salem, Conn.; grandchildren, Jessica Brackett, Christopher Brackett, Kristina Edwards, Shawn Edwards, William Edwards and Taja Sullivan Slaughter; and a great-grandchild, Hunter James Brackett.
