TURNER – Selectmen on Monday night held a public hearing and gave preliminary approval to a new cable contract, which could result in the broadcast of local meetings and events.

The new contract with Adelphia would also provide funds to upgrade the equipment used by the town of Greene’s local video production committee.

Turner Town Manager Jim Catlin told selectmen Monday night that an interlocal agreement with Greene, Leeds and Wales could result in the broadcast of local public meetings such as the Planning Board and the Board of Selectmen. It would also help update coverage of school events, including Leavitt Area High School athletics.

Under Turner’s contract, money available to Turner for video production would be designated to upgrade Greene’s current equipment in exchange for some local coverage. Some of that money would also be destined for coverage, or equipment to the district middle and high schools.

Catlin will be providing further information concerning the number of channels that Turner receives in comparison to Greene because of a resident inquiry.

In other business, selectmen:

• Approved the Androscoggin County assessment, which is 4 percent more than 2004.

• Approved the annual contract with the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society for use of the shelter at $1.25 per capita.

• Were told that inspections, due to concerns by the town of Greene, would be taking place on the Center Bridge.

• Tabled action on setting a liquor liability policy for town buildings and properties until the Boofy Quimby Memorial Center Board could meet and discuss the necessary information.
