Everyone faces adversity and trials in life. The attitude a person takes can make or break him.

Charles Swindoll, a favorite preacher of mine, said “I am convinced that life is 10 percent what happens to you and 90 percent how you react to it.”

You can be pitiful or powerful.

I am reminded of a true story told of a national park. Park officials planted tree shoots by the streams to improve the environment but, to their dismay, the tree shoots kept disappearing.

They also introduced wolves to the park. The wolves became an adversary to the deer that were eating the tender shoots. When the deer came for water, they stood on guard and had to make haste because the wolves visited the water also. The deer didn’t eat all the shoots.

Well, some shoots grew into trees, which covered the streams with shadows. The cool, clear water brought trout and beaver, flowers and all kinds of life.

All because of adversity.
