FARMINGTON – Catherine “Cappy” M. Collins, 89, of Farmington, passed away peacefully at Pinewood Terrace Tuesday afternoon, March 22.

She was born in Farmington, April 26, 1915, a daughter of Ruth Knapp Collins. After graduation from Farmington High School in 1934, she worked as a clerk in several downtown Farmington businesses, retiring in 1977 from her years at the former E.K. Day’s and Chassie’s Department Store.

Over the years she made a home with her beloved grandmother, Blanche Knapp and her sister, Marjorie Collins. She was an avid sports fan and kept rosters and scores of many Boston Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics games. She enjoyed word and jigsaw puzzles and every opportunity to play Bingo. She spent many hours knitting lap robes, which she donated to local churches and nursing homes. She was known as a good friend and neighbor during the years she lived at Hazel Thompson apartments. For the past eight years she had resided at Pinewood Terrace, where she was a valued friend to staff and residents and her roommate, Eva Lindsay.

She is survived by her brothers and sisters, Arthur, Marie and Donald DeRoche and Beverly Hall, of Farmington; cousins and their spouses, Douglas and Cathy Ibarguen and Eduardo and Dorothy Ibarguen, of Farmington and Alfredo and Nancy Ibarguen and Bruce and Ann Ibarguen, of Wilton.

In addition to her grandmother, mother and sister, Marjorie, she was predeceased by her aunt and uncle, Helen and Alfonso Ibarguen, to whom she had been very close.

The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the staff of Pinewood Terrace and Androscoggin Hospice Care for their care and concern.
