LIVERMORE FALLS – Police were hot on the trail Tuesday of potential suspects in a burglary reported Monday afternoon at a home on Strickland Loop.

The burglars had kicked in a door and had taken some items before a teenager returning home from work interrupted the break-in at his family’s home, said Livermore Falls Police Chief Ernest Steward Jr.

A friend of the teenager’s initially reported the incident just before 3 p.m., Steward said.

The friend told police that the teenager had called him to say he had interrupted a break-in.

Steward and officer Joseph Sage were on their way to the site when a car crashed into a snowbank on the other side of Strickland Loop, which is on the Leeds town line, Steward said.

A resident of the road, not knowing about the break-in, helped the potential burglary suspects dig out the car, the chief said.

The teenager who interrupted the break-in had gone to stand at the other end of the loop, hoping to stop the car, but he started walking back after the car took a long time to go around the loop, Steward said.

As the teenager was walking up the road, a blue Neon with two males in it sped past him, Steward said.

Police were working on several leads Tuesday, Steward said.
