The Many and One Coalition was put together in the winter of 2002 after news that a radical white-supremacist group was to visit Lewiston. Since that time, that activist group has done very little to bridge racial unity. After having attended some of their gatherings, it is my opinion that it has focused the majority of its energy into promoting the homosexual lifestyle.

The coalition manipulates public attitudes about homosexuality using the concepts of civil rights. Their strategy exploits the disorganization or disunity among legitimate minorities such as the Somalis who have recently moved here. It enables them to gain power in local civil rights coalitions.

The danger is that civil rights groups can then be pressured to cluster homosexuals with less powerful ethnic and racial groups, giving homosexuals the appearance of having both biological standing and social disadvantaged status.

Of all the special-interest groups in the nation, only one defines itself by sexual preference: the gay community. The sole unifying characteristic of its members is an alternative lifestyle.

Lifestyles can change but the color of skin cannot.

The Many and One Coalition should stop using the civil rights movement for their pro-gay agenda. The group has gone unchallenged since its beginning, and it’s about time to take them to task.
