FARMINGTON – About 70 exhibitors will be touting their wares at the 11th annual Franklin County Home and Leisure Show on Saturday.
Building suppliers, real estate agents, bankers, heating contractors and others will be on hand for the event, which attracts about 2,000 people each year, according to Thomas Sawyer, Franklin County Chamber of Commerce president. The chamber organizes the event each year.
In an odd twist of fate, the home show will take place concurrently with the first Pine Tree Sportsman’s Show in Wilton. The chamber recently signed a contract to lease an office from Nichols Development, organizers of the sportsmen’s show.
But Sawyer said he isn’t worried. He thinks the shows complement each other and hopes people will attend both.
Featured at the home show will be an Easter egg hunt starting at 10 a.m., and an appearance of the Easter bunny. The 4-H club will be having a cake-baking competition, after which cakes will be served topped with Giffords ice cream for free, starting at 11 a.m. Also at 11, a cooking demonstration will feature Veronica Sawyer, who will prepare and serve stir-fry.
Door prizes will be awarded, including two prizes of 100 gallons of heating oil and several gift certificates. A new logo for the chamber will be unveiled during the event as well. It was designed by Leo Deon, assistant director of facilities at University of Maine at Farmington and a chamber board member. It represents the chamber’s recent name change.
