LEWISTON – Mildred Gertrude Fortin, 87, of Montello Commons, formerly of Schooner Estates, Auburn, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 26, with her loving family by her side.

She was born in Lewiston, Oct. 13, 1917 the daughter of Stanley and Philomene (Eva) Roux Bassett. A 1935 graduate of Edward Little High School, she also attended Bliss Business School after which she was employed at White’s Insurance Agency.

On July 5, 1947, she married William O. Fortin at St. Joseph’s Church in Lewiston. As a dedicated military officer’s wife, she faithfully followed her husband’s 23 year career as he achieved the status of a chief warrant officer, CWO3, in the U.S. Navy. After the birth of her first child, she became a devoted stay-at-home mother. Her two daughters, Nancy Ann and Patricia Theresa, achieved independence and commendable careers in the health care profession of which she was proud to have facilitated and had become the recipient of. She was a parishioner at St. Joseph’s Parish in Lewiston and belonged to the Retired Military Association, the Auburn Chapter of Robin Dow and AARP.

Survivors include her two daughters, Nancy St. Pierre and her husband, Paul, of Lewiston, and Patricia Ankers and her husband, Harry Sr., of Chelsea; two grandchildren, Mary Cote and her husband, Daryl, of Lewiston and Master Alexander W.O. Ankers of Chelsea; and two great-grandchildren, Miss Anna and Miss Amy Cote of Lewiston. She is also survived by an older sister, Theresa Welch, of Auburn.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Bill; and grandson, Billy St. Pierre of Lewiston; and brother-in-law, Wayne Welch of Auburn.
