PERU – Hilda Ring Dragoon, 97, of Peru, passed away on Monday, March 28, at her home in Peru.
She was born Sept. 27, 1907, in Bryant Pond, a daughter of Herbert and Linnie Ring. She graduated from Woodstock High School and went on to attend Bates College for one year, transferring to and graduating from Farmington Normal School.
She taught the sixth grade in the Dixfield school system for 15 years. She and her loving husband, Peter Dragoon, celebrated 53 years of marriage. They resided in Peru surrounded by family and friends.
She was a 50-year member of the Rockemeka Grange. Although limited by blindness and poor hearing, she stayed active in things including the Visually Impaired Persons Sharing. She was named their lady bowler of the year at age 96. She was a true example of strength. She never gave up and never missed a family gathering.
She is survived by two sons, James Dragoon and his wife, June, of Peru and Peter Dragoon Jr., and his wife, Aldea, of Brettuns Pond, Livermore and Naples, Fla.; grandchildren, Richard Dragoon and his wife, Sheila, of Berkshire, Vt., Michael Dragoon and April Knox of Peru, Deborah Prue and her husband, Robert, of Wales, Penny Rock and her husband, Tom, of Peru; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Nicole, Neil and Nicholas of Vermont, Jennifer, Travis, Stephanie, Angela, Jeremy, Joshua, Jamie, Katelyn and Samuel, all of Maine; and a great-great-grandchild, Noah of Vermont.
She was predeceased by her husband, Peter Dragoon Sr.; son, Richard Dragoon; daughter-in-law, Joan Dragoon; sister, Rowena Dunham; brothers, Clayton and Merle Ring; and great-granddaughter, Samantha Ann Rock.
