TOPSHAM – Lionel N. Brillant, 85, of Barron Hills died Monday, March 28, at the Veterans Administration Center at Togus.

He was born in Topsham, Dec. 25, 1919, the son of Elzear and Josephine Chounard Brillant. He attended St. John’s School. He worked two years at the Cabot mill.

During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army as a member of the 509 Parachute Infantry Regiment in Africa and Europe. After the war, he worked at the Pejepscot Paper Mill as a paper maker, retiring in 1981.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church and was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 15 of Brunswick.

Surviving is a son, Lionel L. Brillant of Topsham; and a daughter, Louise Brillant of Bowdoin; two brothers, Roger Brillant of Sabattus and Laurent Brillant of Auburn; two grandchildren, Catherine and Christopher Brillant; and four great-grandchildren, Noah and Jacob Brillant, and Alicia and Griffin Thurston.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Anne Maria Brillant, in 1954; and several brothers and sisters.
