Editor’s note: Every day there are rays of light that shine into the lives of people through their neighbors, their co-workers, their families and even through complete strangers. This column is devoted to exposing these sunbeams to the light and offering readers an opportunity to share good news. We plan to occasionally offer up our own sunbeams, too.
True nature

As Amber’s former owners, we thank the Sun Journal for running the article (March 7) on our beloved dog. We would also like to thank the many people who sent donations for the expensive care that Amber required.

Our most immeasurable thanks, of course, go to Adam and Maggi for opening their hearts and their home to an injured animal.

She is a very special and loving dog. We were thrilled to learn that not only has she adjusted to her new home, she has been welcomed by human and canine alike.

It was devastating when we learned that we could not financially afford to care for Amber due to some prolonged financial difficulties.

It has been so uplifting to know that in this questionable time of peace that there are still so many people willing to help an animal and family in distress. So many others would have heard “pit bull” and said “just destroy it.”

We are thankful that others may get to know the true nature of the pit bull, and what great family pets they can be when bred and raised correctly.

Winning attitudes

On Jan. 29, approximately 400 young athletes from across the state of Maine participated in the Sassi Memorial 5K Classic ski race at Black Mountain in Rumford. I would like to commend each athlete for their effort there.

Congratulations to all the 14- and 15-year-olds who qualified for the state of Maine J2 team.

While the focus in the sports pages at this moment revolves around the Super Bowl and the more recognized high school team sports, our nordic skiers’ efforts should not go unnoticed.

I would like to thank everyone for all the hard work, the commitment to the sport and the winning attitudes.
