LOVELL – John R. Fox, 97, of Slab City Road, Lovell, died March 30, at his home.

He was born on Nov. 13, 1907, in South Paris, the son of Guy and Ellen (Gilman) Fox. He was educated in Lovell and graduated from Gould Academy.

He was a World War II Army Veteran. John worked for Diamond National Lumber Mill, but most of his life he owned a sawmill at Toll Bridge in Fryeburg. He also had a portable mills in several local towns.

He was a founding member of the Western Maine Firemen’s Association, a life member of the Lovell Fire Department, a former Lovell selectman, past master of Delta Lodge of Masons, a member of the Lovell Historical Society, the Lovell Trail Breakers, the Fryeburg-Lovell VFW and was a faithful Republican.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading about travel and spending time on his woodlots.

He is survived by a daughter, Joni Fox Campbell, of Seattle, Wash., and Lovell; five grandchildren, Kirk Campbell, Heidi Dikmen, Gray Campbell, Brian Fox and Jeffrey Fox; and three great-grandchildren, David, Jonathon and Heidi Fox.

He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth (Holt) Fox, and two sons, Richard and David.
