LEWISTON – Dr. Virgil M. Manchester D.O., 92, of Nottingham Road in Auburn, died Wednesday morning, March 30, at Central Maine Medical Center.
He was born in Northeast Harbor on June 4, 1912, a son of Lawrence M. and Ellen (Berry) Manchester. He was educated in Northeast Harbor schools, graduated from Gilman High School in 1931, and graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathy and Surgery.
On Oct. 3, 1935, he married the former Juanita Crow who predeceased him in June of 1995.
After medical school he became a lifelong resident of this community. Dr. Manchester was an osteopathic physician for many years in Auburn and was a member of the High Street Congregational Church.
He was also a member of Ashlar Lodge 105, the Scottish Rite, Maine Consistory, the Kora Temple Shriners and was an honorary member of the Kora Patrol. He was also a member of both the Maine and American Osteopathic Associations.
He leaves two sons, J. Thomas Manchester and wife, Melinda, of Camarello, Calif., and Lawrence Manchester and partner, Donna Alexander, of Buckfield; two grandsons, Coleman and Christopher Manchester; and one great-grandchild; and his companion, Doris Whipple, of Auburn.
