A former president by the name of Dwight D. Eisenhower once said, “The future of this republic is in the hands of the American voter.”

Perhaps it is possible that Maine seceded from the United States and the Maine Legislature didn’t allow us to vote against it.

Maine, with the teamwork of its Legislature and Gov. Baldacci, performs sort of like a dictatorship. They overturn voting decisions made by voters at the voting booths, such as property tax relief and gay rights. Then there’s the reason why the Legislature and governor are in Augusta – to find new and sneaky ways to tax the Maine citizens.

The taxed-to-death voters must ask, why vote if the results are taken away by our governor and Legislature?

A Maine congresswoman named Margaret Chase Smith once told young students: When the wants, wishes and opinions of citizens are ignored, it is past time for political change.

I believe it’s time for Baldacci and the legislative rubber stamps to hit the road.
