I read the article in the March 28 Sun Journal about recycling and how the percentage has dropped.

In my experience, it has been wash this, wash that; crush this, crush that; check numbers on plastic; don’t put in this, do put in that; separate everything and then bring out for pickup.

After all that effort, I go out after the truck has left to find trash, bottles, plastic and other stuff all over the ground, which I have to pick up and start all over.

I wonder how others think about that effort? Worth it? Not worth it?

I believe the driver is being too fussy, especially with plastics. Maybe a few new ideas are needed on collecting items and a little more effort on the drivers’ part, then people might not shy away from recycling.

I once worked for the city of South Portland doing that and if I had ever left trash all over the place I would have been fired.

Apparently, the attitude starts from the top in Lewiston.
