NORWALK, Conn. (AP) – A rap artist who made a CD that details a series of shootings that have shaken this city said Monday he had no involvement in the violence and was not predicting more trouble.

The CD by Joe “GRITS” Thompson had sparked fears that more retaliatory shootings were on the way. Police have been carefully listening to the music, which is filled with threats and names a target of one of the shootings.

“I don’t have any involvement with anything,” Thompson said. “I just felt like it was something on my mind I wanted to express. I’m just trying to put our city on the map.”

Thompson, who is 19 and faces charges in connection with a carjacking last fall, said police have tried to contact him but he has not responded. He said he was only repeating what he heard on the streets and was trying to draw attention to what was happening in his city.

The compact disc, an amateur recording sold on the streets and obtained by investigators a week ago, is filled with references to four shootings in recent months that left one man dead and three other people wounded.

“I find the CD extremely disturbing and alarming,” Norwalk Mayor Alex Knopp said last week. “It could well be the occasion of a new round of retaliations and vendettas. It does seem to be sending a message about possible future events.”
