AUGUSTA (AP) – Gov. John Baldacci said there’s been progress in fixing the electronic billing system that’s caused delays and partial payments to MaineCare providers, but more work needs to be done.
A month ago, Baldacci ordered improvements, including reliable and predicable weekly payments for all 7,000 MaineCare providers. MaineCare is Maine’s Medicaid program.
On Monday, Baldacci said the state Health and Human Services Department reports that more claims to providers are being paid normally through a new processing system. The department is also extending interim payments to help relieve financial pressure on many providers, he said.
But the administration is taking more steps to fix the problem, including setting up a financial audit team to ensure accurate documentation and reconciliation of claims. Finance Commissioner Rebecca Wyke’s team will include DHHS staff and the state comptroller’s office.
