OXFORD – A man looking for his dog from his ultralight plane escaped injury when it crashed Wednesday morning, according to rescue workers.

Scott Hunter, deputy chief with the Oxford Fire Department, said Mark Dufault of Oxford crashed his aircraft in a field behind 28 Sunset Ridge Lane on Allen Hill shortly before 9:30 a.m.

A call to the Oxford Police Department to inquire about the incident was redirected to the Fire Department. Hunter said his department was on the scene “just to make sure there was no fuel leak and no injuries.”

He said Dufault appeared shaken, but reported no injuries. Hunter believed the man lived near the scene of the accident.

Patrolman Alan Coffin is investigating the crash, Oxford police Lt. Jon Tibbetts said Wednesday night.

He said the plane had an engine similar to a snowmobile engine, and wings “almost like regular airplane wings.”
