RUMFORD – Lena R. Garon, 84, of Penobscot Street, died Thursday, April 7, at Rumford Community Home, following a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
She was born in Rumford, on March 25, 1921, a daughter of Charles and Rose (Hamanne) Desveaux and was educated in Rumford schools.
She was employed as a sales manager for Chandler’s Clothing Store on Congress Street for many years and was a communicant of St. Athanasius and St. John Catholic Church. She loved to cook and was known for a number of excellent dishes. She also loved to read, crochet and sew.
Surviving is her husband of 57 years, George Garon, of Rumford; two sons, Rosaire Dalbec and wife, Claudette, of Auburn, Neb. and Charles A. Garon and wife, Pamela, of Clovis, Calif.; a daughter, Louise Marcellino and husband, John, of Westbrook; three sisters, Alice Thibodeau of Ohio, Cecile O’Hearn of Auburn and Irene Bilodeau and husband, Paul, of Mexico; two brothers, Phil Desveaux and wife, Jeannette, of Winslow and Ted Desveaux and wife, Adrienne, of Westbrook; five grandchildren, Scott, Beth, Darlene, Dawna and Debbie; and 11 great-grandchildren.
