LACONIA, N.H. (AP) – Authorities were searching for two men who attacked and robbed a man who had offered them a ride outside a bar during the weekend.

Police say a 34-year-old man suffered multiple facial fractures when he was attacked early Saturday morning.

New system helps catch runaways

HENNIKER, N.H. (AP) – Authorities are crediting the safe and speedy recovery of a runaway boy to a new system that alerts residents when police are searching for a missing child.

Officials say a 12-year-old boy ran off from his mother following a counseling session in town last Thursday afternoon.

Initial searches did not locate him.

Then police activated the “A Child is Missing” system, which delivers an automated message to homes and businesses within a three-mile radius of where a missing child was last seen.

Police Chief Tim Russell said the department received dozens of calls from people who had seen the boy and officials were able to plot his route.

He was found at his grandparents’ home in Hillsboro several hours after disappearing.

The system is run by a company in Florida that offers it for free to police departments.
