AUBURN – Edwin A. Higgins, 98, formerly of 1047 Minot Ave., Auburn, died early Sunday morning where he had been residing the past six years at the Clover Health Care Facility following a brief illness.

He was born in Ellsworth, Jan. 21, 1907, the son of Charles and Mary (Moore) Higgins. He was a 1925 graduate of Lisbon High School, as well as completing two years of business education.

He married the former Marguerite Cressey on Nov. 10, 1938, who preceded him in death on Aug. 12, 1996.

He was a lifelong shoe cutter having worked all his life in the local shoe industry. He had been employed for the former Knapp Shoe in Lewiston for over 26 years, retiring in 1972.

He was a member for over 50 years of the Minot Corner Methodist Church in Minot as well as a member the Masonic Tranquil Lodge and Square and Compass Club of Auburn.

Survivors include one son, Rev. Dr. Robert C. Higgins of Bellevue, Wash.; two beloved sisters-in-law, Katherine Higgins who turned 100 on April 8 and Betty (Bessie) Milliken, both of Auburn; six grandchildren, Nate Higgins, Hannah Van Veen and her husband, Peter, Eric Hamre, Ben Higgins, Katie Hamre, and Molly Higgins; and two great-grandchildren; Arie and Wouter Van Veen. Also surviving are many deeply loved nieces nephews, and friends.
