TOGUS – Howard L. Abbott, 60, of South Paris, died Saturday, April 9, in Togus.

He was born in West Paris on Oct. 17, 1944, the son of Lawrence and Florence (Hart) Abbott, and was educated in North Paris schools, graduating from West Paris High School in 1963.

He had worked as an auto mechanic, 16 years in millwork at Stowell Lumber and Hanover Dowell and also did appliance repair work for 10 years. Howard was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the Air Force and was a member of the West Paris American Legion.

He married Sandra Durgin on Aug. 17, 1982.

He is survived by his wife of Norway; one stepson, Michael McAllister of Waterford; two stepdaughters, Jennifer McAllister of South Paris, and Joyce McAllister of Locke Mills; five sisters, Rebecca Stevens of West Paris, Phyllis Morrison of Norway, Mary Jane Ames of Gorham, N.H., Edna Proctor and Elizabeth Jones, both of West Paris; four grandchildren, Shylo McAllister of Bethel, Isaac McAllister of Hallowell, Crystal Mills of Bethel, and Kamden McAllister of Norway; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, James Abbott in 1995, and Harlan Abbott in 2003.
