AUGUSTA – Norman Walker Allen, 87, of Kittredge Street, died Sunday, April 10, at the Maine Veterans Home, after a long illness.
Born in Lisbon Falls, Oct. 8, 1917, he was the firstborn son of Osmond and Gladys (Walker) Allen. He was a graduate of Cony High School, Class of 1935 and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, European theater during World War II.
He was employed by Central Maine Power Co., for 42 years. Since he was a young boy, he was a devoted and committed member of St. Barnabas Church.
A devout believer in his God and his Lord, this gentle man will be dearly missed by his beloved wife of 59 years, Edna M. (Speck) Allen; two sons, David Allen of Augusta and James Allen and his wife, Lorrie, of Bangor; two daughters, Elisabeth Vautier and her husband, John, of Augusta and Kathleen and Tim Defilipp of Westbrook; seven grandchildren, Kelly and Jeffrey Dowling, Kyleen, Ryan and Ross Allen, John Vautier and Eric Allen; a foster grandson, Raymond Perkins and his wife, Rachel; two foster great-grandchildren, Olivia and Aaron Perkins; two brothers, Lawrence Allen of Augusta and Donald Allen and his wife, Joan, of Bar Harbor; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Royce and Warren Allen; and a son, Timothy.
A special thank you is extended by Norman’s family to all his friends for their love and support at this difficult time. We would also like to thank the staff at the Maine Veterans Home for their care and compassion for us and for Norman while he was a resident there.
