Dear Sun Spots: SeniorsPlus is looking for volunteers to serve as activities coordinators who could organize cards and games in our seniors’ lunch centers in Lisbon, Norway and Bethel.
Anyone with an hour or two in the morning; one day a week, or one day a month to help keep seniors active would be appreciated. We also need drivers in the Lewiston/Auburn, Mechanic Falls and Minot areas to provide transportation to seniors for doctor’s appointments, grocery shopping and more. Meals on Wheels drivers are needed to distribute meals to homebound seniors, one or two hours a week. Drivers are eligible for mileage reimbursement. If interested, please call Connie at 1-800-427-1241 or (207) 795-4095, ext. 145. – Connie Belaire, Lewiston.
Dear Sun Spots: We are looking for donations to improve our gardens. We need: loam, manure, lime, 2-by-8 boards, vegetable/flower/herb/perennials, annuals, bulbs, seeds and seedlings. We will put them to good use!
We are a nonprofit supported living program in Lisbon, a branch of Tri-County Mental Health. Please contact Janine at (207) 353-7438. – Janine, No Town.
Dear Sun Spots: I have been a stamp dealer for many years. I am now retired, but still collect stamps. I am interested in buying stamp collections that contain material that I could add to my own personal collection. I can be reached at (207) 784-7892. – Julien Gosselin, No Town.
Dear Sun Spots: In response to the letter written to Sun Spots on March 2 by A.F. in Auburn: I have the Rebekah cookbooks you requested. I am so sorry that I misplaced your name and telephone number. Please call me again. We can make arrangements for you to pick them up. Esther Tucker, 998-5359. Please note that the Rebekah cookbooks are still being sold by Rebekah lodges throughout the state. There are two editions available. The green-covered ones sell for $6 and the white-cover spiral cookbook called the “21st Century Maine Rebekah Cookbook” sells for $10. Last year 48 of the older editions were sold and 223 of the newer editions were sold. Please call me and I will be happy to make arrangements to make a cookbook available to anyone who is interested. – Esther Tucker, No Town.
Dear Sun Spots: You are the best of the best in what you do. You’ve gotten addresses for me, you’ve gotten some information about cookie companies and you give us all something we need sometimes. You’re on the money. Not many times have I seen no answer to the questions. Here’s one for you:
On the March 19 on page A2 you had a picture of former Gov. John G. Rowland of Connecticut and his family. The question is, what is his wife Patty’s maiden name? Thank you. – Bryant Lessard, Ray Brook, New York.
Answer: Sun Spots contacted Connecticut Post reporter Ken Dixon who says Patricia Rowland’s maiden name was Oemke.
