Former President Lyndon Johnson changed our Social Security system and allowed Congress to use our money. How did that happen? It is time for Congress to pay it back.
Residents of Maine have had the same theft of funds, but of income from the various games of chance. Part of the income from the Megabucks was to help pay for education. I remember when a free Megabucks ticket was sent in the mail.
I have inquired at the state level and from other sources to find out what amount from Megabucks income has been paid to our schools, and what amount has the state used. I would also like to know how state officials were able to siphon off that money. As a taxpayer, I want a full accounting of that.
Gov. Baldacci wants more. Maybe we would have been better off with that casino.
I say, hands off, governor.
