JAY – The Jay Police Department is promoting firearms safety in the home through Project Childsafe. Police Chief Larry White Sr. and Jay Police Department officers will give away free gun locks again this year.

The giveaway will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, at Hannaford’s Store in Jay Plaza.

Police hope that firearm owners in the community will assist in keeping the children of the community safe. Firearm owners can do that by ensuring their firearms are secure in their home.

Always store a firearm unloaded in the home. Store ammunition in a locked separate location, if possible. The locks given away will be the cable lock type that can be used to secure almost any type of firearm.

Project Childsafe is supported by a grant awarded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, U.S Department of Justice.

Free DARE T-shirts will be given away to children accompanied by an adult while supply’s last.
