FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington scored 10 runs in the fourth highlighted by a three-run homer from Kelly McDonough as the Beavers defeated Maine Maritime 11-0 in Game 1 of a softball doubleheader on Wednesday.

Renne Trafton went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and Brandi Rideout hit a two-run single for UMF. Lauren Stacey went the distance, giving up just three hits to pick up her fourth win of the season.

In Game 2, UMF tallied seven runs in the fourth two of which came on a double by Sarah Martin as the Beavers grabbed a 12-4 victory. Martin, Kristi Cochin and Mary Berry each had three hits, two runs and two RBIs for UMF (7-4).

Bowdoin, Colby split

WATERVILLE – Rachel Gordon went 3-for-3 to lead Bowdoin to a 10-4 victory over Colby in the first game of a doubleheader. Bowdoin’s Emily Nelson went the distance to pick up her ninth win of the season. Kara Fagan had a two-run double for the Mules (6-8).

In the second game, Amanda Roehn pitched a complete game to lead Colby to a 4-3 win to split the doubleheader. Elizabeth Riley and Kara Fagan each had two hits for Colby. Brittany Ogden hit a triple and scored a run for the Polar Bears (16-5).

Thomas, Husson split

WATERVILLE – Wendy Butler knocked in two runs in the top of the seventh to give Husson a 3-2 victory over Thomas. Taralee Webs went the distance, allowing just two runs to improve her record to 5-1. Kayla Beaudoin went 2-for-4 and Nicole Smith struck out four and gave up five hits for Thomas.

The second game was all Thomas as Jen Lane belted a two RBI single to propel Thomas to an 8-0 win. Thomas’ starter Joy Ireland pitched a complete game to pick up her fifth win of the season.

Plymouth State sweeps

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Kim Jeffs threw a perfect game with 10 strikeouts to lead Plymouth State to an 8-0 victory over St. Joseph’s in the first game of a doubleheader. Jenny Norton batted 3-for-3 with four RBIs for Plymouth State (7-11).

In the second game, Rose Eaton pitched a complete-game two-hitter to carry Plymouth State to a 2-0 win and the sweep. Colleen Courtney had two hits and an RBI for the Panthers. St. Joe’s (6-13) only hits came from Deb Drown and Leanne Morton.

Endicott 5, USM 2

GORHAM – Katie Dohery and Ashley Labella each had RBI singles in the second inning to lead Endicott to a 5-2 win over the University of Southern Maine in the first game of a doubleheader. Kelly Bregman pitched into the sixth to pick up the win for Endicott (16-2-1). Christen Lachapelle had three hits for the Huskies (9-10-1).

In the nightcap, Elyse Colby tripled home the tying run with two outs in the seventh inning as Endicott rallied back to forge a 4-4 tie with USM. The game was called in the eighth due to darkness.

Baseball

Bowdoin 10, UMass-Boston 6

BRUNSWICK – Patrick Duchette went 2-for-4 with three RBIs to lead Bowdoin to a 10-6 victory over the University of Massachusetts at Boston in collegiate baseball action Wednesday.

Jon Koperniak chipped in with a two-run triple for Bowdoin (12-6), while Ricky Leclerc added a two-run double. Reliever Ken Kozens picked up the mound win after stepping onto the hill in the seventh.

Pat Donovan led the offensive effort for UMass (10-9) with two hits and two RBIs, while Darwin Gonzalez added two hits and two runs scored. Evan Tardugno was saddled with the loss after a damaging five-run seventh inning from Bowdoin.

St. Joseph’s 6, Colby 3

STANDISH – Andy Exley smashed a three-run, two-out homer in the seventh inning to break a 3-3 tie and lift St. Joe’s to a 6-3 victory over Colby in college baseball action Wednesday.

Charlie Furbush and Arthur Dvilinsky chipped in for the Monks with a pair of hits and one RBI respectively. Dale Enman picked up the mound win, allowing just two hits in two innings of relief.

Nick Spillane, Ben Liberty and Tyler Hales led the way for the Mules with two hits apiece.

Colby starter Robert Jacobs was credited with the loss, allowing six runs in six innings of work.
