SALEM, Mass. – Tip Fairchild had four hits, including two doubles and a home run, to lead Southern Maine to an 11-2 rout over Salem State in collegiate baseball action Thursday.

The Huskies (12-5) blew open a 2-2 game with six runs in the sixth inning, then added three more in the seventh. Rich McGraw also had a solo homer for the Huskies. Kyle Fecteau scattered six hits over eight innings while walking two to earn his first collegiate win.

USM sweeps Salem St.

SALEM, Mass. – Melissa Henderson fired a one-hit shutout and junior pitcher Caterina Riitano gave up just two hits as Southern Maine blanked Salem State College 4-0 and 8-0 in a softball doubleheader Thursday afternoon.

In the first game, Henderson earned her seventh win of the season by fanning nine batters and walking two. Salem’s lone hit of the game was a bunt single that the Huskies (10-10-1) conceded as they tried to let it roll into foul territory.

In the nightcap, Riitano pitched a steady game – giving up singles in the second and third inning while striking out four. The game was shortened to five innings after the Huskies exploded with six runs in the fourth.

Husson 2, Colby 1

WATERVILLE – Auburn’s Deanna Maxim and teammate Rachel Wing scored on an RBI single by Shawna Bell to lift Husson to a 2-1 victory over Colby.

Alicia LaGrange allowed five hits yet no earned runs to earn the mound win.

Megan Watts made her first start for Colby (6-9) and was saddled with the loss.
