WILTON – The Healthy Community Coalition invites community members to attend “Charting Our Course: Next Steps of Community Health Visioning,” to be held from noon to 3 p.m. Thursday, April 28, at the Boiler Room Restaurant. Lunch will be provided.

Goals for the meeting include gathering with community members, town officials and agency representatives to pursue the next steps in the community health visioning process, review priorities in the recent community health visioning and to develop specific community projects and timelines that relate to the visioning priorities.

The 2004 visioning process began with a comprehensive survey of greater Franklin County residents. A total of 450 surveys were completed by residents throughout Franklin County with an additional 25 completed by area volunteer groups.

Priorities that were identified include: physical activity, increase affordable indoor and outdoor recreational opportunities that are family-oriented; youth opportunities, improve access to constructive activities for youth after school and on weekends; health care, increase community understanding of health care resources and improve access to care; nutrition, develop more affordable and easier options for healthy eating choices and provide more education.

Also, environmental issues, cherish the region’s beauty – develop ways to sustain and improve air and water quality; tobacco and substance abuse, support individuals in the community who reduce their tobacco and substance use; and economic stability, create a more stable economic environment by developing and supporting better paying jobs with benefits.

In addition to developing specific community projects, the Healthy Community Coalition will celebrate the launch of the Community Connector (www.TheCommunityConnector.org) a Web-based resource for health and social service information in Greater Franklin County.

RSVP by Monday, April 18, to Lisa Laflin at 645-3136, ext. 5103.
