FARMINGTON – Megan Goodrow went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored to lead the University of Maine at Farmington to a 10-0 victory over the University of Maine at Presque Isle in the first game of a doubleheader on Friday.

Lauren Stacey pitched three innings and gave up three hits to pick up her fourth win of the season.

In Game 2, Marry Berry belted a two-run homer and finished with two runs scored and three RBIs as UMF defeated UMPI, 9-0. Kristi Cohin went 4-for-4 with two runs and an RBI for the Beavers (9-4). Stephanie Moriarty went five innings and struck out eight and only allowed three hits to improve her record to (4-1).

St. Joe’s sweeps

STANDISH – Deb Drown pounded out five hits in two games as the lead-off hitter to assist St. Joe’s with 3-2 and 10-2 victories over Husson College in a softball doubleheader Friday.

With the score tied 2-2 in the home half of the seventh frame of Game 1, the Monks (8-15) plated the winning run with one out and left two on base. Drown had a pair of hits in the opener.

Game 2 saw more offensive activity as the Monks tagged the ball for 14 hits over six innings. Drown recorded three hits, while Megan Farrell, Kahler Dowling, Jamie Morrison and Amanda Roy each chipped in with a pair of hits.

Shawna Bell, who had a double in the first game for the Braves (12-8), crossed the plate in the first inning of the nightcap for one of Husson’s only two runs. Nicole Monroe scored the other run, also in the first inning.

Baseball

Tufts 10, Bowdoin 2

MEDFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore pitcher Ben Simon threw seven strong innings and senior designated hitter Greg Hickey went 3-for-4 as Tufts opened a three-game series against Bowdoin with a 10-2 baseball victory Friday afternoon.

The Jumbos (13-6) took a 4-0 lead in the second inning when junior right fielder Jim O’Leary crushed a three-run homer to right field.

Tufts added three runs in the third, while Hickey had a solo home run in a two-run fifth and doubled another run in the sixth to put the Jumbos up 10-0.

The Polar Bears (12-7) threatened in the seventh on back-to-back singles by sophomores John Lawrie and Mike Buckley, but came up empty. In the eighth frame, junior DH Ricky Leclerc drilled a two-run home run to end the Tufts’ shutout bid.

Trinity 12, Colby 2

HARTFORD, Conn. – Junior pitcher Greg Talpey allowed only one run over seven innings as Trinity cruised to a 12-2 win over Colby in baseball action Friday.

Senior co-captain Andrew Fries led the Bantam (19-2) offense by reaching base in all five of his plate appearances, collecting two singles, a double and a pair of walks.

The White Mules (0-16) were paced by Nick Spillane and Roddy Ames.

Spillane had a two hits, including a double, while Ames contributed a pair of hits in the loss.

St. Joe’s sweeps

STANDISH – Miles Johnson pitched five innings, struck out five and only allowed one hit to lead St. Joe’s to a 6-0 victory over University of Maine at Presque Isle on Friday.

Andy Exley went 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored while Charlie Furbush also added two hits and two RBIs for the Monks. Chris Saucier had the only hit for UMaine-Presque Isle.

In Game 2, Matt Vasil pitched a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts as St. Joe’s crushed UMPI 13-0. Exley went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Derek McIntosh belted a home run with two RBIs for St. Joe’s.
