DURHAM – A minor two-car accident Saturday afternoon brought a utility pole down on Route 136, closing the road for about 45 minutes. No injuries were reported.

Deputy Sheriff Mark Caron, the investigating officer, said James Lyons, 17, of Greene, was driving towards Auburn and had slowed to make a left turn. Joy Watson, 27, of Biddford, who was traveling behind, told Caron she didn’t see Lyons slowing.

She swerved her car to the right but was unable to avoid a collision, striking the rear of Lyons’ vehicle and continuing off the right shoulder, before striking and snapping a utility pole near the Davis Road intersection, Caron said. The pole struck Lyons’ vehicle as it came down.

Durham Fire and Rescue responded for assistance. Damage to Lyons’ 2004 Toyota, which was driven from the scene, was estimated at $2,000; damage to Watson’s 1998 Chevrolet Blazer, which was towed, $2,500.
