NORWAY – U.S. Sen. Olympia Snowe, who is seeking re-election to a third term, has announced that former state Sen. Rick Bennett of Norway will be her campaign treasurer.

“I am honored to welcome Rick to the campaign,” Snowe said. “His counsel and leadership will be invaluable in the coming 19 months of this campaign.”

In 1996, Bennett was elected to the first of two terms in the Maine House of Representatives and four terms in the Maine Senate. In 1994, he was the Republican nominee for U.S. Congress in Maine’s second district, the seat formerly held by Snowe.

He also served as director of corporate governance for Lens Investment Management from 1997 to 2002. Bennett serves as a consultant with Lens Governance Advisors and is also a principal in The Corporate Library, an independent director of Biddeford Internet Corp., a non-executive director of Trucost PLC and a director of EnterpriseMaine.

Bennett holds a bachelor of arts degree from Harvard University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Southern Maine.

He lives in Norway with his wife, Karen, his daughter, Abigail, and his son, Nathaniel.
