SABATTUS – A Spring Bazaar is planned from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 6 and 7, at the Dominican Sisters’ Convent, 61 Lisbon Road.

Veronique Pratt will once again bake a variety of pies for the bake table. Tickets are now being sold for a raffle with 100 prizes, such as 100 gallons of heating oil, camping gear and a savings bond. Raffle tickets may also be obtained at the convent. The raffle drawing will take place at the bazaar at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 7. Winners who are present may choose their own prizes.

A fund-raising bottle drive is also taking place. Anyone can drop their empty bottles off at the Dominican Sisters’ convent.

Last year Loaves and Fishes dispersed close to $50,000 to local families in no interest and forgivable loans for such things as mortgage payments building, materials for home repairs, heating oil, propane for cooking, electricity (to avoid cut-offs), telephone and bills for the unemployed and the underemployed.

The total does not include the in-kind time of the certified budget/credit counselor who works with families with credit problems.

The local food pantry is opened to people in need of food who have financial problems. The pantry is open every fourth Wednesday of the month. Loaves and Fishes and the pantry are nondenominational and are open to all area people in need.
