LEWISTON – Erma Mae (Wright) Gagnon, 94, of 74 Lake Auburn Ave., Auburn, died at Central Maine Medical Center Saturday, April 16.
She was born in Auburn, May 2, 1910, the daughter of Josiah Riley Wright and Lucy MeDora Libby. Educated in Durham and Auburn schools, she graduated from Edward Little High School, Class of 1928. She also graduated from Pelletier Beauty School in January 1939.
She owned and operated Erma’s Beauty Shop for 35 years before retiring. In her earlier years, she worked at Cushman & Hollis Office for seven years sampling shoes. After her retirement she volunteered at Central Maine Medical Center for 10 years as a radiation therapy aide.
On Dec. 9, 1944, she married Donat Gagnon, who passed away Nov. 21, 1986. She was a member of Court Street Baptist Church. She was an honorary member of the Auburn Senior Citizens, honorary member of Robin Dow Senior Citizens, The Evergreen Club of YWCA, The Young at Heart at Court Street Baptist Church, Jay Club and The Salvation Army. She loved socializing with family and friends, and she also enjoyed playing cards, knitting, fancywork of all kinds and puzzles. She loved her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Marie Waterman; her granddaughter and husband, Patricia and Matthew Delisle; three great-grandchildren, Allison Delisle, Christopher Delisle and Lillian Delisle; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Donat Gagnon; her brother, Paul O. Wright, who died on Nov. 28, 1992; and her son, Lloyd Waterman, who died on Oct. 29, 2001.
