BATH — Brandon Powell knocked a two-run single with two outs in the seventh inning to lift Leavitt to a 3-1 victory over Morse in a KVAC baseball matchup on Wednesday.
Leavitt (1-0) scored all three of their runs with two outs in the seventh inning. Tyler Angell tied the game with an RBI single before Powell put the Hornets on top. Adam Sawyer earned the win with five solid innings of work.
Riley Walker led Morse (0-1) with two base hits and was the only player in the game with multiple hits.
Monmouth 13, Lisbon 3
MONMOUTH – Sean Holbrook and Scott Ogden combined for four hits and three RBIs to lead Monmouth to a 13-3 rout over Lisbon.
Freshman Devin Robbins chipped in for the Mustangs (1-0) with two hits and one RBI. Andrew Bellmore scattered four hits in seven innings to earn the mound win.
Levi Ervin led the Greyhounds (0-1) with a double and a single, while starter Chris Cates was credited with the loss.
Jay 1, Livermore Falls 0
JAY — Ryan Depompo went the distance and struck out seven batters while only walking two to lift Jay to a 1-0 win over Livermore Falls.
Jay (1-0) had eight walks as a team, but stranded nine runners in the game.
The lone run of the game came when Justin Wells scored on a passed ball in the fourth inning.
Dane Hanson was saddled with the loss for Livermore Falls (0-1) notching eight strikeouts and eight base on balls along the way.
Mt. Blue 5, Gardiner 1
FARMINGTON – Adam Wallace scattered four hits as Mt. Blue rolled past Gardiner 5-1.
John Maloney, Hal Robbins and Steve Wells all tallied doubles for the Cougars (1-0).
Catcher Eric Hatchey led the Bulldogs (0-1) with a double, while Stephan Black allowed six hits and was saddled with the loss.
Waterville 8, EL 4
AUBURN — Conor McCarthy pitched seven strong innings to lift Waterville to an 8-4 victory over Edward Little.
McCarthy struck out three and scattered six hits over seven innings to earn the win for the Panthers (1-0) while helping his cause with a two hit performance at the plate.
John Hart hit a two RBI double in the third inning after Waterville had enjoyed the luxury of three walks and an error.
Steve Simpson was the losing pitcher for Edward Little (0-1) allowing eight runs, four of which were unearned.
Softball
Oxford Hills 4, Cony 2
SOUTH PARIS – The Oxford Hills softball squad plated three runs in the third inning and held off a rally by Cony in the fifth to notch a 4-2 victory in opening-day KVAC softball action on Wednesday.
Diann Ramsey led the Vikings (1-0) with two singles, while Randi Arsenault scattered seven hits to notch the mound win.
Pitcher Allison Cheever led the Rams’ (0-1) offensive effort with a pair of hits.
Madison 4, Mt. Abram 3
MADISON – Hannah Seamans and Tannis McCourt combined for three hits and two RBIs to lift Madison to a 4-3 victory over Mt. Abram.
McCourt belted out a triple for the Bulldogs (1-0) while Seamans tallied two singles.
Sarah Smith struck out five and scattered five hits to notch the win.
Kate Walker led the Roadrunners (0-1) with a pair of hits, while Katie Walker walked three while taking the loss.
Leavitt 9, Morse 1
BATH — Bethany Burgess and Brittany Gurney held Morse to three hits as Leavitt cruised to a 9-1 victory. Burgess (1-0) pitched a solid five innings, striking out eight to earn the win. The Hornets were led offensively by Caroline Bochtler who had two doubles.
Emily Page smacked a solo home run in the fourth inning to help put the game out of reach.
Jill Hendrickson (0-1) went the distance for Morse in the losing effort.
Mt. Blue 11, Gardiner 3
FARMINGTON – Brandi Rand scattered six hits in five innings of work as Mt. Blue defeated Gardiner 11-3 in more KVAC softball action Wednesday.
Reliever Meagan Richard led the Cougars (1-0) offensive efforts with an RBI double.
Amanda Cray led the Bulldogs (0-1) with two doubles, while Lauren Bechwitz also smashed a double.
Kents Hill 11, Hebron 10
HEBRON – Tina Reeves ripped an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Kents Hill to a 11-10 victory over Hebron.
Lili Pettengill smashed a home run for Kents Hill, while Liz Laptewicz and Caitlin Hussey tallied doubles. Laptewicz also handled pitching duties and picked up the win.
Tiffany Bichrest led the way for Hebron with a triple and a double. Sarah Irish worked the mound for seven innings, striking out six and walking four while taking the loss.
