AUBURN – The Lewiston-Auburn Tax Credit Awareness Coalition honored area volunteer tax preparers at its second annual banquet at Central Maine Community College on April 7.

Twenty-two volunteers were trained by the Internal Revenue Service prior to the recent tax season and subsequently prepared 387 tax returns as part of the local earned income tax credit awareness campaign.

Free tax preperation sites were established throughout Lewiston-Auburn, along with an outreach site in South Paris, from Jan. 25 to March 12.

Melody Fish, a Lewiston resident, was honored at the banquet for being the “top preparer” this season by e-filing 48 of the 387 returns prepared. Fish, a Lewiston resident, noted that she “enjoys helping people and assisting with their taxes.”

Other volunteer tax preparers receiving recognition by Twin Cities’ Mayors Lionel and Norm Guay, the Internal Revenue Service, the Annie E. Casey Foundation and representatives from Sens. Olympia Snowe’s and Susan Collins’ offices were:
