RUMFORD – Police are still searching for a male who was involved in an assault Friday off Rumford Avenue on the footbridge over the Androscoggin River.

A Rumford girl reported at 12:30 p.m. that a man had held her while his accomplice, a young woman, maced her in the face, Detective Lt. Stacy Carter said.

Carter said police arrested Michelle Shaker, 18, of Rumford, and charged her with violation of conditions of release. Shaker was also summoned on charges of assault and criminal use of a chemical agent (pepper spray).

She was taken to Oxford County Jail in Paris and is to be arraigned on June 7 in Rumford District Court.

Shaker had been arrested March 15 on a charge of receiving stolen property in connection with a burglary at Aubuchon Hardware in Rumford.

On April 8, Shaker was indicted by an Oxford County grand jury on that charge. The case has yet to be settled in Oxford County Superior Court.
