OXFORD – Selectmen scheduled a special town meeting for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, at the town office for voters to act on the discontinuance of Lars Drive, following the hearing on the discontinuance earlier this week.

Lars Drive property owner Caroline Thermaenius had concerns about what would happen to the road if the Home Depot project does not happen.

“This is land that Lars and I own,” she said. “He put in the road and the town accepted it.

“My concern is if this project doesn’t go forward, we’ll be stuck with commercial lots without a town road,” Thermaenius continued.

Town Manager Michael Chammings said that, if that happens, the selectmen would propose a town meeting article to accept the road again.

Mark Conolly of WS Development, the manager of the Home Depot project, said he would take the responsibility to get the article before voters to get the road accepted. He also said plans call for construction to start in June.

During the special town meeting, voters will also be asked to accept $1,500 as the result of Police Department contributions in an investigation of a criminal case.

The special town meeting will be followed by the regular Board of Selectmen meeting that had been moved from Thursday, April 21.
