NORWAY – Stone-Smart Unit 82 American Legion Auxiliary met recently with President Donna Pike presiding. New officers were elected.

Officers for the coming year are: Kim Hansen, president; Marion Millett, first vice president; Marilyn Jones, second vice president; Joyce Clifford, secretary; Rose Moulton, treasurer; Barbara Henley, historian; Christine Weiss, chaplain; Theresa Dodge, sergeant-at-arms. The executive committee includes Ellen Snow, Marjy Sessions and Donna Pike.

Kim Hansen, Poppy chairwoman, noted that unit members will be out with poppies on May 20th and 21st at the Lake Store and Rite Aid and the following weekend at Wal-Mart. As field service chairwoman, she asked members to report what they have done for veterans. As a member of the Department of Maine Junior Program, she noted that Stone-Smart will host the Junior Convention on April 30.

Joyce Clifford reported on Girls State delegates and alternates. Girls State will be at Husson College in June. Delegates are Tiffany Stevens, Emily Denison, Miranda Olmstead. Alternates are Heather Hastings, Amanda Farrar, Rachel Robinson. The unit sponsors two delegates and Norway Savings Bank sponsors one.

Delegates to Department of Maine Convention in June at Augusta are: Kim Hansen, Joyce Clifford, Lucille Alien and Eliane Rogers. Ethel Lacourse will be an alternate. Ruth Jucius, oldest living past department president, will be a member at large. It was voted to pay registration for all delegates.

Donations were voted to the Children’s Miracle Network, pay annual secretary and treasurer for years of service. Secretary Joyce Clifford donated her pay to Post 82 for their new chairs and Treasurer Rose Moulton donated hers to the post’s Veterans Memorial Park. A donation was approved to Rose Moulton for flowers for Veterans Memorial Park, to Legion baseball for the sign at the ball field.

The unit will buy remaining chairs the Legion needs, will help buy a mixer for a young woman who bakes cookies at the Lewiston Veterans Center.

Lucille Allen asked if anyone knows of a girl scout troop that needs a sponsor for the coming year.
