DETROIT – Scott Podsednik hit a go-ahead, two-run single in the seventh inning, and the Chicago White Sox beat the Detroit Tigers 4-3 for their fourth straight win.
Chicago’s 12-4 record is its best after 16 games since the 1935 team had the same mark. The White Sox have won the first two games of all six series this season.
With Chicago trailing 3-1 in the sixth, Paul Konerko hit a bad-hop, run-scoring single into left-center. A.J. Pierzynski and Joe Crede singled in the seventh, then moved up on Juan Uribe’s sacrifice bunt. Jamie Walker relieved, and Podsednik grounded a single just past second baseman Omar Infante.
Detroit put its first two runners on in the eighth against Dustin Hermanson, but Ivan Rodriguez flied out and Dmitri Young grounded into an inning-ending double play.
Mark Buehrle (3-1) gave up three runs and six hits in seven innings with four strikeouts. Shingo Takatsu followed Hermanson and completed the seven-hitter for his fifth save.
Jeremy Bonderman (2-2) allowed four runs and seven hits in 6 1-3 innings.
Detroit outfielder Magglio Ordonez missed his ninth straight game with a suspected hernia. Tests are trying to determine the exact injury.
Chicago, which has won six of seven, went ahead in the first on singles by Willie Harris and Carl Everett followed by walks to Konerko and Jermaine Dye. The White Sox left the bases loaded when Aaron Rowand took a called third strike and Pierzynski flied out.
Rondell White tied the score with a second-inning homer, Rodriguez hit a run-scoring single in the third and Carlos Guillen hit a two-out, RBI triple in the fifth as the Tigers built their 3-1 lead.
Notes: Bonderman has allowed seven first-inning runs in his four starts. … Pierzynski is 6-for-12 in his career against Bonderman.
