AUBURN – Benedict Haines, 80, of Lewiston, died Friday morning, April 22, at Clover Health Care Facility, following a short illness.

He was born in Fayette, on Oct. 23, 1924, the son of Hugh R. and Ura (Flagg) Haines and he had been a resident of this community for the past 50 years.

He was employed at Northeastern, Inc. for many years until his retirement.

He served in the military with the Army in the Pacific during World War II and stateside in the Korean War. The remainder of his 32 years of service was with the Reserves in the 76th Committee Group. He retired a sargeant major.

He was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner in the Kora Legion of Honor.

He enjoyed playing golf and was also a Maine Guide.

He leaves behind his wife of 51 years, the former Helene Orcutt, whom he married on Nov. 28, 1953; one daughter, Sheryl Veilleux and her husband, Michael, of Brunswick; and two grandchildren, Christopher and Matthew Veilleux of Brunswick.

He will be sadly missed by his family.
