AUBURN – Old School has captured the regular season title in the Auburn Rec Women’s Slowdown Basketball League and will be the top seed when the double-elimination playoffs begin next week.

In final regular season action this week, Old School defeated Rec-Ing Crew 45-38 in a battle for the pennant. Erin Lovely led the winners with 17 points. Betsy Pratt added 8. Laura Pate paced Crew with 21. Allison Simard added 11.

Hoop Camp knocked off Young Ones 53-41 as Katie Morin tallied 19 and Lisa Blake 11. Pauline Veinote scored 17 for Young Ones. Elaine Keene added 10.

Shirl’s Girls beat Independent Women 31-25 as Kelly Brower netted 13 and Jen Robitaille 12. Ashley Golden scored 19 in a losing effort. Jessica Day was next with 6.

Playoffs begin Tuesday, April 26, as follows: Game 3, 6:30, Young Ones (6) vs QP&S (3); Game 2, 7:45, Independent Women (7) vs Rec-Ing Crew (2); Game 1, 9:00, Hoop Camp (5) vs Shirl’s Girls (4). Old School has a bye and will play the winner of Hoop Camp-Shirl’s Girls on Wednesday at 6:30. Also that day, the winners of games 2 and 3 will meet at 7:45, and the losers of 2 and 3 will clash in an elimination game at 9:00.

Playoffs continue Thursday, and May 3-4. Final standings:

AUBURN – Unbeaten Scott Thayer Auto (3) and once-beaten Brew Crew (2) have moved to the championship round of the Auburn Rec Men’s Slowdown Basketball League playoffs.

Those two clubs will clash Monday at 6:30 at Hasty Community Center. If Brew Crew wins, a second and deciding game will follow.

Thayer Auto moved to the finals by beating Fitness World (1) 72-64 this week. James Whirley led with 24 points, Chris Randall added 19. Christian Gurney paced Fitness with 16. Matt Winslow was next with 14.

General Electric (4) eliminated L-A Dox (6) 44-41 as Ryan Giroux scored 23, including seven 3-pointers. Frank Perry added 6 points. David Baker (12) and Verne Paradie (10) led Dox.

Brew Crew remained alive with a 96-81 triumph over Rocky Mountain Oysters (9). Joe Harris was hot with 27 points. Mike Belanger contributed 16. Dan Goggin poured in 34 and Jon Wallingford 33 in a losing effort.

Brew Crew eliminated General Electric 72-46 as Bill Martin tallied 24 and Harris 18. Carter Edwards netted 13 for the Bulbmen. John Boyd added 10.

Brew Crew then advanced to the finals with a hard-fought 65-61 win over Fitness World. Martin (18) and Belanger (13) sparked the winners. Winslow scored 15 for Fitness. Gurney added 14.
