STEUBEN (AP) – A Columbia man who was rushing his fiance to the hospital was killed and she was trapped when the car spun out of control and rolled over several times, troopers said.
Santos Rodriguez, 29, was speeding in heavy rain when he lost control of the 2004 Pontiac Grand Am late late Sunday, said Trooper Barry Curtis.
Rodriquez, who was en route to the hospital with his fiance, along with her mother and brother, was killed instantly, Curtis said. A hydraulic tool was used to free the fiance, Stephanie Mejia, and another passenger, he said.
The crash took place a short distance from the Steuben fire department and was reported at eight minutes before midnight.
