CARRABASSETT VALLEY (AP) – A teenage girl from Massachusetts was killed in a skiing accident at Sugarloaf USA on Friday, two days before the resort closed for the season.
Alison Murphy, 17, of Lancaster, Mass., who was skiing with her mother and two siblings, lost control on the double black diamond Skidder trail, Police Chief Ron Moody said Wednesday.
Murphy, who was wearing a helmet, suffered severe trauma when she hit trees and a snowmaking hydrant enclosure before coming to a rest in a ravine, the chief said. She died at the scene from head trauma.
It was the first skiing-related death on the mountain since the spring of 2003.
