The streak is over.

After 35 straight wins – no losses in 2005 – the Rimouski Oceanic’s record-setting streak came to an end Wednesday at the hands of division rival Chicoutimi.

The Sagueneens, facing elimination and an 0-3 hole against the No. 1 seeded Oceanic, got two goals from Maxime Tanguay in the first period and a shutout from former Maineiac netminder Brandon Verge on their way to a 5-0 win.

Francis Verreult-Paul, Louis-Etienne Leblanc and Marek Zagrapan rounded out the scoring for Chicoutimi, which scored the five goals on 33 shots on Cedrick Desjardins.

The Oceanic set the Canadian hockey League record for consecutive victories after sweeping the Lewiston Maineiacs on April 6. Three consecutive wins to open their semifinal series against Chicoutimi pushed the record to 35.

Sidney Crosby was held without a point for the second time in eight playoff games.
