FARMINGTON – SAD 9 directors on Tuesday authorized the superintendent to enter into a four-year contract totaling $170,520 with a China business for spring, summer and fall grounds maintenance contract.

The contract was put out to bid, and four people asked for information, while only one company, Danforth Lawncare and Plowing, placed a bid, said David Gould, district maintenance and grounds supervisor.

Superintendent Michael Cormier said the district is requiring criminal history checks on all the company’s employees before working on school property.

The contractor is responsible for mowing and maintaining lawns at all the district’s schools and a Wilton bus shelter.

The company also is required to sweep all parking lots, drives, sidewalks and rake all designated areas.

The business is also required to mow and maintain designated playing fields in the district.

The contractor will be paid $42,000 in both 2005 and 2006 and $43,260 in both 2007 and 2008.
